Using Manual on your camera, shoot a few photos under exposed and then a few photos over exposed and then a few properly exposed with the light meter in the middle.
Notice the differences using the (Histogram) under the Levels in Adobe Photoshop.
Open the photos using Adobe Lightroom and notice the (Histogram) under the Develop Tab. Try to correct the photos and notice how difficult it is when the Histogram is toward the left or right, too much.
